WINNSBORO, La. (AP) - The Franklin Parish School Board plans
later this week to consider a proposal to convert to a four-day
school week.
Similar discussions are occurring in many school districts,
including Union, Monroe City and Ouachita, in order to prepare for
an expected revenue shortfall.
The News-Star reported Monday that Franklin School Board
President Eddie Ray Bryan believes the matter is one the district
must at least explore. He says research shows that the district
would save 20 percent on transportation, but other savings are not
as predictable.
Bryan says he will remain open-minded about the idea, but would
like to ensure that any cost savings is not offset by a decrease in
student learning.
The board will decide May 28 whether to include the proposal on
the agenda for its June 8 meeting.
