Franklin Police Department will conduct an impaired driver checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the City of Franklin on Thursday between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.

All drivers traveling through the checkpoint will be screened for alcohol and drug impairment, and any that are impaired will be removed from the roadway.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to reduce the number of deadly crashes and those causing serious injuries, to keep impaired drivers off roadways and to inform the public of the dangers of driving while impaired.

In 2008, Troop I arrested nearly 300 impaired drivers in the parish.
