WINNSBORO, La. (AP) - Franklin Parish School Board President
Eddie Ray Bryan says Superintendent Lanny Johnson has decided not to seek another contract when his current one expires at the end of the month.
Johnson also has served as superintendent of Ouachita Parish Schools.
Bryan tells The News-Star Johnson agreed Tuesday to stay one month beyond the end of his contract to allow the district to advertise and find a replacement.
Bryan says whoever the district chooses to succeed Johnson will be faced with challenges, including financial and academic.
Caldwell Parish Superintendent John Sartin and Richland Parish Superintendent Cathy Stockton have also announced that they will retire within the next few months.
The school board has scheduled a special meeting Wednesday night to accept Johnson's resignation.
