A Franklin man is dead after a single vehicle crash in St. Mary Pariah. Around 1:05 Saturday afternoon, State Troopers responded to the crash that happened on US 90 east of Franklin. The crash involved an 18 wheeler loaded with sugar cane. The driver, 34 year old Roderick Preston, was traveling eastbound on US 90 when he lost control and exited the left side of the roadway and drove through the median. Troopers say the vehicle continued across the westbound lanes and the westbound frontage road before entering the Hansen Canal, where the cab became totally submerged. The truck was recovered from the canat at about 11:00 pm Saturday night.
It is unknown if Preston was wearing his seatbelt. He was pronounced dead on scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
