Authorities say the crash happened just before 12 noon today (October 27). The driver of a dark colored Toyota car allegedly fell asleep at the wheel while traveling westbound on I-10 and lost control of the vehicle. The Toyota traveled across the median and struck a green Ford Taurus head east on I-10. All four occupants were transported to area hospitals, two from each vehicle. The injured parties suffered minor to moderate injuries. The operator of the Toyota will be cited for Careless Operation with a Crash. The highway was re-opened at approximately 1:10 pm. During the time of closure both lanes of I-10 were completely shut down so crews and public safety personnel could clear the scene as quickly as possible.
