Four Arrested for Drugs in Acadia Parish

Crowley Police are keeping the pressure on persons who are dealing illegal narcotics within the city of Crowley. Today, Chief of Police K.P. Gibson reports that an additional 4 persons have been arrested on distribution charges, all charges related to prescribed medication abuse.

"These (prescribed medication) cases are the toughest to work. For criminal charges to apply when a person has a prescription, the person has to be caught selling the pills. Simply being in their possession is not against the law, due to the medication being prescribed" stated Chief Gibson.

"In the past few years, we have seen a major increase in the abuse of prescription drugs. This is running amongst the top of the drug industry along with cocaine (Crack) and marijuana" stated Chief Gibson.

During the past several months, undercover operations have occurred, where purchases of prescribed medication has been made from people involved in this illegal industry. Crowley Police have arrested the following people as part of these operations:

Gilbert Renard Hanks, aka Bert Hanks, 48 of Crowley: Distribution of Oxycodone. Bond has been set at $35,000.

Catherine Guidry, 51, Crowley: Distribution of Oxycodone and Distribution of Methadone. Bond has been set at $20,000

Julie Regan, 37, Crowley: Distribution of Oxycodone. Bond has been set at $20,000.

Ashley Hoffpauir, 23, Crowley: Distribution of Oxycodone. Bond has been set at $30,000.

"We are dedicated to fighting the illegal narcotics industry here in Crowley and we will not stop this fight for our families and our community" stated Chief Gibson.
