BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Applications will be accepted from March
15 to May 13 for the Gulf Coast Restoration and Protection
Foundation's second round of financial assistance grants for oil
rig workers affected by the federally imposed deepwater moratorium
that followed the last year's Gulf oil spill.
The grants are limited to people who were working as of May 6 in
direct support of any deepwater drilling rig that was subject to
the moratorium. Eligible applicants include people working for
offshore supply companies and offshore support companies such as
fuel, industrial chemical and food supply firms and diving and crew
boat service businesses.
The foundation estimates that up to 9,000 people might qualify
for the awards ranging from $3,000 to $30,000.
