MONROE, La. (AP) - Monroe attorney and former state Sen. William D. "Billy" Brown has died after a long illness.
The News-Star reports Brown died Tuesday at his home. He was 80.
Brown served two terms in the Louisiana Senate, from 1968-76, before an unsuccessful campaign for lieutenant governor. State Sen. Francis Thompson, D-Delhi, served with Brown in the Legislature when Thompson was a freshman lawmaker. He says Brown was one of the "most talented and classiest people in the Legislature in the 1970s."
Brown, a Democrat, was born in Vicksburg, Miss., and raised in Lake Providence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Brown is survived by his wife Eleanor and their three children.
