MONROE, La. (AP) - Days before his second trial on tax evasion
charges, former state Sen. Charles D. Jones is booked with driving
while intoxicated.
Jones, whose phone number is unpublished, could not be reached
for comment Sunday. Attorney Mike Small did not immediately return
a call.
The News-Star reports that Ouachita Parish sheriff's deputies
pulled Jones over late Friday for allegedly failing to use a turn
signal.
The police report said he was unsteady and using his car for
balance, refused a field sobriety test but took a breath test at
Ouachita Correctional Center. The report says his blood alcohol
content was 0.09 percent. Louisiana's legal limit is 0.08 percent.
Jones' retrial on the tax charges begins Monday in Shreveport.
His first jury was unable to reach a verdict.
