Former school counselor sentenced in drug case

NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) - A former Carencro Middle School guidance counselor has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for possession of cocaine in a school zone.
On May 24, 2010, Kenrard Broussard was caught in a school zone in New Iberia while picking up a package of cocaine. Broussard told authorities he sold cocaine to supplement his income.
KATC TV reports Broussard was in possession of more than 200 grams but less than 400 grams of cocaine in a school zone. His 18-year sentence is without the benefit of probation, parole of suspension. He says he had been receiving shipments of cocaine from someone in Houston. A jury convicted Broussard on Dec. 8.
