Former Officer Sentenced in Civil Rights Case

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A federal magistrate judge has sentenced a
former Patterson police officer, convicted in September 2009 of a
misdemeanor civil rights violation, to one year in federal prison.
A jury convicted 23-year-old Jeffrey Jermaine Prince for
sexually assaulting a woman in May 2008 when she arrived at the
Patterson Jail to visit her brother, who was being held at the
time.
Magistrate Judge C. Michael Hille lso sentenced Prince on
Wednesday to 1-year supervised release following his prison term
and to pay a $2,500 fine.
Hill allowed Prince to surrender Sept. 17
at noon.
