LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Former Leesville Police Chief Bobby Hickman has been indicted on two counts of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Mayor Robert Rose tells The American Press Hickman was arrested Friday by the FBI.
Mona Hardwick of the U.S. Attorney's Office says a detention hearing was held Monday for Hickman and he was released. Hickman's trial date was set for Aug. 8.
According to the indictment, Hickman knowingly possessed two firearms on which the manufacturer's serial number was "removed, altered, and obliterated."
It was not immediately known whether Hickman has an attorney.
