KENNER, La. (AP) - Salvador J. Lentini, who served 28 years as Kenner's police chief, has died after a long illness.
A spokesman for the City of Kenner, Emile LaFourcade, says Lentini died Thursday at Canon Hospice. He was 87.
Kenner's current police chief, Steven Caraway, worked under Lentini for more than a dozen years and witnessed how Lentini transformed the Kenner Police department from a country town marshal's office to a well-equipped, well-trained and professional municipal police force.
Caraway says Lentini brought honesty to the department and taught officers to treat the people they served like family.
