COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A former doctor - working as a medical
technician at the St. Tammany Parish jail despite pleading guilty
to drug charges - was arrested after he allegedly had sex with an
inmate.
According to Saturdays Times-Picayune, Paul Nathan, who pleaded
guilty to fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs for his own use
earlier this year, was booked into jail in Covington Friday with
prohibited sexual contact with a prisoner and malfeasance in
office.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. George Bonnett says that last
month, a female inmate told St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office
investigators that she had engaged in oral sex with Nathan.
He did not elaborate on the victim's statements because the case
has not yet gone to trial, but says deputies booked Nathan on what
they believed to be the appropriate charge.
