LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - The trial of a former Calcasieu Parish deputy accused of rape and sexual battery has been postponed.

Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Beth McGee tells the American Press David N. Thomas of Moss Bluff was scheduled to stand trial Thursday before Judge Ron Ware, but Thomas' attorney moved to have the trial continued.

Thomas was arrested Nov. 3, 2009, after a woman told authorities that her juvenile daughter was having sex with Thomas.

He was fired from the sheriff's office after his arrest.

A new trial date has not been set.
