A former Lafayette police chief was recently recognized for his work in the field of domestic violence prevention. Ralph Peters received the Leanne Knot Memorial Award last week at the Conference on Sexual Assault and Family Violence in Baton Rouge. The award, which was established in 1998, honors a Louisiana resident who has made a significant contribution in the area of prevention or intervention in domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Peters, who is now retired from law enforcement, currently works with the Family Violence Intervention Program in Lafayette. He also serves on the board of directors at both the Domestic Violence Education and Support Groups in Natchitoches and Faith House in Lafayette.
