BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Disbarred Baton Rouge lawyer Randy P. Zinna has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after admitting he defrauded government pension funds, an 83-year-old widow and others of more than $1.5 million.
The Advocate reports U.S. District Judge James J. Brady sentenced Zinna on Thursday.
The 54-year-old Zinna promised in his plea agreement last year to pay restitution of $434,164 to the Municipal Police Employees' Retirement System of Louisiana and $340,392 to the East Baton Rouge City-Parish Employees' Retirement System.
During his law career, Zinna served for years as counsel to both pension funds.
Prosecutors say the largest swindle in Zinna's case was $546,351 taken from an 83-year-old widow.
Brady ordered Zinna to report to federal prison on Dec. 19.
