NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The housing slide is taking an increasing toll on Louisiana homeowners.

Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac, which tracks foreclosures nationwide, says 4,552 Louisiana properties were targeted by some sort of foreclosure-related notice during the first quarter. Those range from an initial notice of default to repossession by a lender.

During the first quarter, 1,374 homes were taken back by lenders. Another 2,231 received a final notice of a pending sale.

Foreclosure actions hit one in every 432 Louisiana residential properties, ranking the state 26th in the nation.

RealtyTrac said the top foreclosure rates during the first quarter were recorded in Nevada, California, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Utah and Wisconsin.
