A Florida man is charged with drug possession after a traffic stop in Jeff Davis Parish. Deputies say David McMann of Miami was pulled over on I-10 Eastbound near milepost 63 for speeding. Investigators say when the vehicle was pulled over, they could smell burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. When asked for a drivers license, deputies say McMann didn't have one.
After a vehicle search, deputies say they found an opened can of beer, and a glass smoking pipe containing marijuana. Deputies say they then opened the center console and found a clear plastic bag containing green vegetable matter and a glass jar containing green vegetable matter all believed to be marijuana. Between the drivers seat and center console deputies say they discovered a Ruger Semi Automatic handgun. All contraband was seized and McMann was placed under arrest.
McMann was transported to Jefferson Davis Parish Jail where he was booked on the charges of Possession of Marijaua , Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Firearm in the presence of CDS.
McMann was released due to lack of bed space in the jail.
