Steven Myers, the Florida registered sex offender arrested in Lafayette in June after reportedly stabbing himself and a 16-year-old missing girl, was indicted Wednesday on charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property.
Ashley Lyon, from Valrico in the Tampa Bay area, left home with Myers on June 11.
The two were later recognized by a cashier at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete, which prompted a 40-mile chase on the interstate until state troopers used a spike strip to stop the truck on I-10 in Lafayette. The truck, reported stolen out of Taylor County, Fla., hit four other vehicles during the chase.
Myers stabbed Lyon and then began stabbing himself after one of his tires caught fire.
Myers is still being held in the Lafayette Parish Jail. In Florida, he's facing charges of interfering with child custody, attempted sexual activity with minors and traveling to meet a minor.
Officials in the 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office say they are working with federal officials in Florida and in Louisiana to settle jurisdictional issues. However, they say they "move aggressively" on the case.
