A slow moving storm system developing across Texas Tuesday will bring the threat of heavy rains and storms storms to Southeast Texas Tuesday with the system slowly creeping eastward and northward into Louisiana Tuesday night through Thursday.
The threat of heavy rainfall and perhaps flooding conditions will likely develop across Texas Tuesday into Wednesday with rain potentials there in the 5-7" range. As the system moves eastward and northward Wednesday it will drag showers and storms into Acadiana Tuesday night into Wednesday, and more than likely into early Thursday.
Highest rain chances and the threat of heavy rainfall will stay in Acadiana Wednesday into early Thursday with rain chances staying 70-80% or better through the period. As of press time, the highest rain chances, near 100%, are expected Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and then again Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. Timing will be subject to change.
Overall, two to three day rain totals in Acadiana will range from near 4-6" or better in western sections of the area to 2-5" farther east.
Flood Watches were posted for Southeast Texas through Wednesday, while any watches for Louisiana/Acadiana won't be issued until Tuesday.
In addition to the heavy rain threat, the Storm Prediction Center has all of Acadiana hatched in for a slight risk of severe storms Wednesday with the remote possibility that storms may contain damaging winds, hail and a few possible isolated tornadoes.
Rain chances will decrease dramatically for the latter part of Thursday into Friday while yet another series of upper systems approach this weekend into early next week bringing the threat of more rain and storms back to the region.
Mild temperatures are expected much of this week with highs in the 60s Tuesday and low-mid 70s for the rest of the week into the early part of the weekend. Cooler conditions, but not necessarily drier conditions will move into Acadiana next week.
