Heavy rains will return this afternoon across most of Acadiana. A Flood Watch will remain in effect through Thursday morning. Rainfall totals over the past 24 hours have exceeded 8 inches over parts of Iberia and St. Mary parishes. Up to five inches of rain has fallen over Lafayette, Vermilion, and St. Martin parishes. Additional rains are developing over the Gulf of Mexico and will lift northward over Acadiana today and tonight.
As the system pushes eastward, there will be a slight chance for some of these storms becoming severe, especially along the coast. Slow moving, heavy downpours will drift northeastward possibly bringing an additional three to five inches of rain on average. Some locations could pick up much more.
Flood guidance models show that western parts of Acadiana can take up to 4 inches of rain before flooding occurs. Eastern sections of Acadiana can't take much more than an inch or so before additional flooding kicks in.
