A flood WATCH remains in effect across Acadiana today because of high river levels and saturated ground. Even though storms are predicted for today, the coverage and the intensity should be less than the record rainfall we saw Wednesday.
Officially at Lafayette Regional Airport 6.87 inches of rain fell yesterday breaking the old record set back in 1915. KATC's rain gauge had 7.60 inches and other backyard rain gauges across the region had anywhere between 6 and 12 inches.
The low pressure area that helped dump all that rain over the area is drifting eastward very slowly but will stall, therefore the chances for rain will continue through Friday. Coverage will diminish even more over the weekend.
Temperatures will remain in the mid 80s during the day and drop back into the low 70s at night. Later this weekend, summer like temperatures will return as the rain chances drop.
