BATCHELOR, La. (AP) - Mounds of rotting garbage and debris awaiting federal government inspection are lined up along the roadside near camps in the Old River area in northern Pointe Coupee Parish.
The Advocate reported the trash has been there since spring, when the Mississippi River rose to record levels while flooding the oxbow lake and the camps surrounding it, parish officials said.
The parish has a contractor on standby ready to haul off the heaps of trash and garbage, but can do nothing until the Federal Emergency Management Agency sends a team to inspect the waste, officials said.
