WBRZ - Police at LSU are investigating the burning of the school's American flag that flew over the parade ground early this morning.

LSU spokesperson Ernie Ballard said police were called to the parade ground around 5:15 a.m., and found the American flag had been cut down and burned.

The LSU campus flag was also missing.

Investigators removed the flag just before 11 a.m., and members of the ROTC Cadet Corps were guarding the scene.

They said it would take a couple of days to replace the flag because of the damage that was done to the flagpole.

If you have any information about this incident, contact LSUPD at (225) 578-3231.

Meanwhile, a noon prayer service was held at the flagpole.

LSU public relations says it's in response to the flag burning.
