Five Car burglaries reported in Iberia Parish

On October 21, 2012 several vehicle burglaries were reported in the area of Plantation Drive and Rue De Lion within the City of New Iberia.

Authorities say, deputies responded to five vehicle burglaries, three burglaries on Plantation Drive and two on Rue De Lion. According to deputies, several firearms were stolen from one of the vehicles on Plantation Drive. Only one other vehicle had items stolen from inside the vehicle. The other three vehicles had evidence of someone going through its contents, but no items were stolen.

Deputies advised that all of the vehicles were unlocked at the time of the burglaries. Sheriff Ackal would like to stress how important it is not to leave valuable items inside of an unattended vehicle. Also, thieves are targeting unlocked vehicles and going from vehicle to vehicle hoping to find and unlocked vehicle.

In order to combat the issue of vehicle burglaries, Sheriff Ackal has Detectives with the Bureau of Investigations diligently investigating the burglaries. Sheriff Ackal also has his Directed Patrol Unit conducting surveillance in the areas these burglaries are occurring.
