VIDALIA, La. (AP) - Concordia Parish Sheriff's authorities have recovered the body of a missing fisherman from Pointe Coupee Parish.
The body of 44-year-old Ewell Nelson Henderson was found Tuesday near the Old River control structure.
Deputies say Henderson had been fishing late Friday with his wife and two sons when a log apparently struck the family's aluminum boat, killing the motor.
Concordia Parish Deputy Patrick Cavin tells says it appeared that the family began paddling the boat, but the current began sucking it underwater. The boat then struck the control structure gates and stood up on its end.
Deputies say Henderson's older son climbed onto the control structure's gates while the younger boy swam to the riverbank. The boys' mother was rescued, but Henderson was not able to get to safety.
