DOWNSVILLE, La. (AP) - The first time was the charm for Donald Clark.

Though the Downsville resident said he never played the Mega Millions lottery before, he decided to buy a few tickets at a West Monroe convenience store because of the buzz for the March 30 drawing.

His winning ticket matched all five of the white ball numbers, but missed the Mega Ball number. He won $250,000.

The News-Star said Clark plans to use the prize to pay off the mortgage on his home.

The Mega Millions jackpot for the March 30 drawing was $656 million with a cash value of $473 million, a world record. Jackpot-winning tickets were sold in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland.

The state lottery says Louisiana players won just over $1.5 million.
