First day of class for Lafayette charter school

Willow Charter Academy opened its doors for the first day of classes today. There are 481 scholars enrolled in the school. Willow Charter Academy, operated by National Heritage Academies (NHA), is a free public charter school serving students in kindergarten through fifth grade for the 2014-2015 school year.

Willow Principal Melissa Jones Clarke said, "I am so excited to welcome our first group of scholars through the doors for the first day of school. The excitement of a new school year is heightened with a brand new school. I know our scholars will do great things and achieve their highest potential."

The former retail space now features 28 classrooms, a media center, dedicated parent room, 4,191 square foot gymnasium, and an outdoor playground. The school will serve scholars in kindergarten through fifth grade, adding a grade level per year for three years.
