Beefing up patrol and penalties for using fire works in Jeanerette was an easy choice for Jeanerette Police Chief Larry Jones.
"I don't want to wait until someone either get killed or seriously injured before we decide to do anything," says Chief Jones.
The ordinace has been there for years.
If caught using fire works you will be arrested and issued a summons.
If caught shooting a gun in the air, expect a trip to jail.
The strict enforcement of the rules, a big change than years past.
It's no surprise that people in town have mixed feelings about the fire work ban, and the Chief himself.
Some may see this has small and petty, but the chief says it's all about changing the culture in jeanerette.
"I think people begin to believe that we're actually here and we're actually doing that i think you gonna see a big difference."
