Fire Marshal hopeful burned man and woman may be ID'd tomorrow

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning reports that there has been progress in identification of the man and the woman recovered from a burned SUV in Maurice on April 16.

"We'd still like the public to come forward with information. We do have some credible information as to who the two individuals are, but we're still working to confirm."

Browning said that he's hopeful that investigators may be able to release, as early as Wednesday afternoon, the names of the deceased man and woman.

Browning said that his investigators were able to positively identify the SUV as a General Motors vehicle. Browning said that identification of the two victims is only an aspect of his criminal investigation into what appears to be an "intentionally set" fire. The state fire marshal said that his investigators are working closely with both the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office and the Vermilion Parish Coroner's Office to determine the motive for setting such a fire.
