SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A two-alarm fire heavily damaged a west Shreveport apartment building that was home to eight families.
Shreveport Fire Department spokesman Fred Sanders said the Thursday afternoon fire spread quickly because the apartments shared a common attic and did not have fire-stops between units.
No injuries were reported but one firefighter had to be taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.
Two families were home when the fire started, but the fire did not begin in their apartment. The building's managers met with the displaced families Thursday evening to determine a place for them to stay.
