Fire Departments Battles Current Fires in Burn Ban Declared Areas

Sheriff Melancon wants to remind residents that effective October 3, 2010, the entire State of Louisiana has been put under a burn ban. All residents are to refrain from any activity that could initiate a fire.

Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon stated that his office is investigating the following incidents:

-A uncontrolled burn Hwy 91 & Connie Road near Iota. Iota Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.

-Grass fire Hwy 92 & Muskrat Road near Crowley. Lyons Point Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.

-Grass fire Roxie Hwy near Richard. Richard Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident.

-Several complaints involving neighbor disputes. No arrests were made.

-Several complaints involving domestic related incidents. No arrests were made.

-Vandalism to a vehicle at the K C Hall in Mire.
-Theft of money from a residence on Charlie Arceneaux road near Rayne.

-An accident near Jasmine Road, Estherwood. No damage and no injuries.

-Busted gas line Yukon Road in Midland. Haz Mat was contacted.

Sheriff Melancon is asking everyone to contact his office if you witness anything suspicious anywhere in the parish.
Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 788-8700 or 789-tips.
