Fire at abandoned New Orleans hotel closes I-10

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A fire on the top levels of an abandoned New Orleans hotel sent smoke blowing across Interstate 10.

Police shut down the highway in both directions Thursday night as about 50 firefighters battled the fire at the old hotel, which has been slated for demolition.

The building is on historic Canal street at its intersection with Claiborne Avenue.

No injuries were reported and the interstate and surrounding streets were reported open by around 10:40 p.m.
