BATON ROUGE - Letters will be going out beginning Monday to more than
15,000 Louisianians who may be eligible for extended unemployment benefits
and are not now getting them, the Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) said
today.

The letters will give eligible claimants instructions on when and how to
file. Payments will be released within two weeks and will cover all
eligible weeks going back to June 5, 2010.

Claimants need not call the unemployment insurance call center.

In addition to 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits paid through the
state's Unemployment Insurance (UI) Trust Fund, most unemployed individuals
in Louisiana have been eligible for up to 47 additional weeks of benefits
funded by the federal government. Federal legislation approved Thursday
extended the filing deadline for these federal benefits. Claimants who have
exhausted the 47 weeks of extended federal benefits do not qualify.
