WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, is pleased to announce that public voting is officially underway to choose the local artist that will represent the 5th District in the 2013 Congressional High School Arts Competition.
For the second year, the public will select the winner through Congressman Alexander's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/RepRodneyAlexander). Friends and family are encouraged to participate and help spread the word. Voting concludes Friday, May 3, 2013, at which time the entry receiving the highest number of "Likes" will be deemed the winner.
"This contest sparks so much excitement from aspiring artists in the district. I am hopeful that since the public will select the winner, even more interest will be generated within local communities and schools throughout the region. Be sure to ‘Like' your favorite piece and then ‘Share' the album with friends to show your support for participating students," said Alexander, a member of the Congressional Arts Caucus.
An Artistic Discovery, which began in 1982, is a nationwide art contest that provides Members of Congress the opportunity to display the creative work of local high school students in the nation's capital, where it will be exhibited alongside other district winners for one year. Thousands of people will have a chance to view the impressive artwork from high school students across the country.
