HOUMA, La. (AP) - Federal Emergency Management Agency grants totaling $7.9 million will be used to elevate 45 homes in Terrebonne Parish.
The money was given to Terrebonne Parish last week to raise homes that have been flooded repeatedly or were substantially damaged by flooding during hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
Parish President Michel Claudet tells The Courier of Houma that the home-raising projects will help Terrebonne keep people in place and thereby help preserve the parish and its culture.
