FEMA Awards $21 Million in Projects For Louisiana

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today more than $21.8 million for 12 recovery projects in Louisiana. These federal dollars include the funding for the reconstruction, repair or content replacement for damages associated with hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The 12 projects include:

Facility Planning and Control, State of Louisiana: $2.4 million for electrical repairs at the University of New Orleans Keifer Lakefront Arena. A total of $1.1 billion has been obligated to Facility Planning and Control.

Port of New Orleans: $1.7 million to repair the Milan Street Wharf Shed. A total of $67.1 million has been obligated to the Port of New Orleans.

Holy Cross School: $1.6 million for lost school contents. A total of $94 million has been obligated to Holy Cross School.

Life of Christ Christian Academy: $1.3 million for facility replacement. A total of $1.9 million has been obligated to Life of Christ Christian Academy.

St. Bernard Parish: $2.2 million to reconstruct Aycock Barn, which will be converted into an open air seafood market. A total of $976.8 million has been obligated to St. Bernard Parish.

Plaquemines Parish: $6.7 million for work at Port Eads, including replacing fishing camps 1 and 2, restoring the docks and walkways and replacing its water system. Additionally, the Boothville Water Treatment Plant receives $1 million for repairs. A total of $392.7 million has been obligated to Plaquemines Parish.

Cameron Parish: $3.5 million to reimburse the parish for administrative costs associated with the repair or replacement of damaged facilities or the performance of emergency work. A total of $62.5 million has been obligated to Cameron Parish.

Greater Lafourche Port Commission: $1.4 million for erosion protection at Fourchon Beach after Katrina washed away approximately 20,000 cubic yards of sand. A total of $12.6 million has been obligated to the Greater Lafourche Port Commission.

In total, FEMA has obligated more than $10.7 billion in Public Assistance funding to Louisiana for damages caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
