ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Alexandria officials are digging deep to find ways of increasing revenue to deal with another projected shortfall due to decreasing sales taxes and increased unfunded
state mandates.
The Alexandria City Council is considering five ordinances that would increase fees for the city's zoo, transit service, residential and commercial garbage service and stormwater
management program.
If the proposed zoo increase is passed, those rates would become $7 for children ages 4 through 12; $9 for children over 12 and
adults; $6 for senior citizens and handicapped; and $5 per person for groups of 15 or more.
Bus fees would double or triple.
The residential garbage fee would increase to $21.40 and the commercial fee would increase from a $25 flat fee to $42.80 for
basic commercial service.
