NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Iberia and Cameron parishes have been given $532,000 in federal offshore drilling funds to replace a bridge for the Port of Iberia and repair an industrial road.
The money is coming from the Coastal Impact Assistance Program, a fund set up by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 that allocates money to states that allow offshore drilling. The money, which comes from offshore revenues collected by the federal government, is supposed to be used to conserve and protect the coastal environment.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement says the $532,000 will fund the replacement of a bridge on Port Road, a link for the Port of Iberia; and repair Trosclair Road in Cameron.
