Feds announce two DOT grants for southwest Louisiana airports

The U. S. Department of Transportation announced two grants worth more than $2 million being awarded to local airports in southwest Louisiana.

The larger of the two grants, for $2 million, will go to the Chennault Industrial Airport in Lake Charles. The funds will be used to rebuild the existing runways and perform a wildlife hazard assessment for the facility.

The smaller grant, for $78,300, will go to the Jefferson Davis Airport Commission in Jennings. That money will be used to develop an airport layout plan for identifying future needs.

"These announcements are welcomed news to our communities in Southwest Louisiana," said Rep. Charles Boustany in a statement.
