FBI report shows steady drop in Lafayette crime

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Lafayette Police Department's latest crime statistics show a decline in crime from 2010 across the board.
The Advertiser reports the FBI crime statistics shows there were decreases in all categories of the bureau's uniform crime report in 2011.
According to the report:
-Homicides decreased by 50 percent.
-Rapes were down by 57 percent.
-Robberies dropped by 3 percent and assault reports dropped 2 percent.
-Burglaries decreased by 17 percent and theft and auto theft decreased reports dropped by 4 percent.
This is the second year that Lafayette has seen a reduction in crime of 5 percent or greater.
