The F. B. I. is offering up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of Jose Manuel Garcia Guevara. Guevara, 22, is a suspect in the February 2008 murder of Wanda Barton in her mobile home in the Jessie James Mobile Home Park in Lake Charles being investigated by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. It is alleged Guevara broke into Barton's home at night, raped, then brutally stabbed her to death in the presence of her 4 year old stepson.
Guevara is an illegal alien who was working construction in the Lake Charles area and lived in the same mobile home park as Barton. The investigation by CPSO detectives revealed around 10:00 on the morning of the murder, Guevara left Lake Charles on a bus in route to Dallas, TX then on to his hometown of San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Guevara is a Hispanic male about 5'5" to 5'8" tall, weighing about 150 pounds. He has a tattoo of the letter "J" on his shoulder. He is believed to be in Mexico but may travel to Houston or Dallas, TX or New Mexico using fraudulent documentation.
On April 2008, a warrant for Guevara's arrest was issued by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office charging him with second degree murder, aggravated rape, and aggravated burglary. A federal arrest warrant was issued in October 2009 by the United States District Court, Western District of Louisiana, after Guevara was charged federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Anyone having information on Guevara's whereabouts is asked to call the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office at (337) 491-3605, the F.B.I. at (337) 433-6353 or Crimestoppers at (800) 737-8676.
