Louisiana State Troopers are investigating a single vehicle crash on LA 347 near St. John Bridge Rd. that claimed the life of a St. Martinville man.
Killed in the crash was sixty year old Philippe Johnson. Johnson was killed when the vehicle he was driving ran off of the road and struck a large tree. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish Coroner.
According to the investigating troopers, on March 6, 2010, shortly after 1:05 a.m., Johnson was traveling south on LA 347 in a 1983 Ford truck. Johnson failed to negotiate a right curve, traveled off the east side of the road, and struck a large tree. After impact the Ford overturned and came to rest upright in a field. Johnson was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. Troopers obtained toxicology samples from Johnson, and they were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
