Iberia Parish- Last night troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on US 190 west of Krotz Springs.
Killed in the crash was seventy four year old Leus Knott of Arnaudville, LA. Knott was not wearing his seatbelt and was killed when the vehicle he was driving collided head on with another vehicle. Knott was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner.
According to the investigating troopers, on December 16 at 9:36 p.m., Knott was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of US 190 in a 1989 Ford pickup truck. Fifty three year old Robert Willingham of Opelousas, LA, was traveling in the left eastbound lane of US 190 in a 2007 Dodge pickup. The Ford collided head on with the Dodge. After impact, the Ford came to rest in the eastbound lanes. The Dodge came to rest partially in the median and the westbound lanes. Willingham was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and sustained moderate injuries. He was transported to a local area hospital.
Troopers obtained blood samples from both drivers, and submitted them to the State Police Crime Lab for toxicology tests. The results of the test are pending. The crash remains under investigation. This is the 56th fatal crash and the 64th fatality Troop I has investigated this year.
Troopers want to remind occupants of a vehicle the importance of wearing your seatbelt every time you get into a vehicle. Wearing your seatbelt is not only required by state law, but it will also greatly reduce your chances of being injured or killed in a crash.
