A missing person's case in St. Mary Parish ends in tragedy. For months, friends and family have been searching for 38 year old Mark Berthelot. St. Mary Parish investigators now confirm he was murdered.
Berthelot was a family man and loved spending time with his two daughters. His family members say he was always the life of the party.
His Aunt, Stephanie Sanders, said, "fun, make you laugh, and loved children. A hundred-percent always a big joke."
The last time Sanders saw her nephew was in early October. Since then her family has been convinced he was alive. They even made a Facebook page pleading for him to come home.
"We were hoping he was just mad and playing a little disappearing act," she said. " Asking everyone--please just let us know something or for him to contact us. I went as far as saying just leave a note on the door just to let us know your okay."
A farmer discovered Berthelot's body in a field near Highway 317 in Centerville, which is about 15 miles from where he was last seen.
Family member knew about the body being found two weeks ago and now autopsy results confirmed what they feared.
"I was hoping it wasn't, just some of the details people were spreading around," she said. "Always love your kids and your family because you never know what's going to happen."
Family members are asking anyone with information to please come forward. St. Mary Parish officials aren't releasing details about how he died or the circumstances surrounding his death.
