In St. Landry Parish, a family who suffered a recent loss realized the need for organ donors and decided to share the gift of life.
According to the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, in the U.S., there are over 118,000 people on the organ donation list. Of those, 18 people will die each day, just waiting.
Dana Faul, believed her son's purpose on earth was to help others.
"I would love for people to be able to live through Matthew," says Faul. "Just to have the heart that he had, they're the luckiest person on earth."
Before Matthew Neal took his last breath, doctors knew his organs were in good shape. Faul says doctor's asked her is she would donate her son's organs after he passed.
"I said most definitely. It was not even a thought in my mind," Faul remembered.
Within 10 hours of Neal's passing, his organs were already helping someone else. Faul says she wants others to know the importance of giving to help others.
"I just think that it is very important to get in and sign up and donate because you don't know who's life you're saving," says Faul.
