THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - State higher education officials, Nicholls State University and a fraternity are being sued over last year's death of a Nicholls student who fell from a homecoming hayride.
The lawsuit filed by the family of 19-year-old Nathan Trepagnier says the student fell from a trailer last year after fellow fraternity coerced him to drink heavily and use a recreational drug as part of a hazing ritual. According to The Daily Comet, the lawsuit also alleges that university authorities failed to enforce anti-hazing policies and other university rules.
The university declined comment.
