It's a "showcase showdown" for some Lafayette Parish schools over at the Cajundome Convention Center. But, it's all in good fun. The Fall Frenzy gives Lafayette's Schools of Choice the opportunity to attract new students using creative displays.

"Every year it gets bigger and bigger," said Angie Simoneaux, with the Lafayette Parish School System. "The teachers, they try to out do each other, it really gets better every year."

Each SOC booth has a theme, representing the school's curriculum with hands-on demonstrations and activities. One example is the stream table display at Northside High Environmental Science Academy's booth.

"We're a project based curriculum." said Director Mitch Coffman. "It's a wonderful opportunity for kids in Lafayette Parish to get enrolled in this academy. Most of the academies offer students the opportunity to go beyond working in a classroom and sitting in a desk."

The hands-on approach is something SOC students say they also enjoy.

"You learn it, you know it (just) like that... that way when you get to college it'll be a lot easier," said Northside Senior, Kendall Dugas. "You get to be around people that were (as) smart as me, or smarter than me.Cause you want to challenge yourself and be sure you put in enough effort, enough work."

The Fall Frenzy will be held Saturday, November 13th from 9am to 1pm at the Cajundome Convention Center. Admission is free.
