Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Randy Schexnayder tells KATC the two schools in Gueydan are on partial lockdown because of a Facebook threat. "It's strictly precautionary," he said. Threats were made neither directly to the school nor to any students or staff, but someone who lives in the Gueydan community posted a Facebook comment saying he had a gun and clip and was looking to "hurt the babies," Schexnayder said. The precautionary measure was taken in light of shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. Gueydan High and Jesse Owens Elementary will remain on partial lockdown until they receive notice from Gueydan Police. Police are investigating the Facebook threat.

Partial lockdown means classroom doors are locked, and teachers continue with a normal day of instruction. If there were an imminent threat, Schexnayder would have ordered a full lock down - doors locked, lights off, kids hidden inside the school and no teaching.
